Budget passed, people recognized, at BOE meeting.

The Bleckley County Board of Education approved the tentative FY26 budget at the May 20 regular meeting. The budget was presented by superintendent Dr. Trey Belflower. There was an opportunity for public comment, according to meeting minutes, no one chose to do so.

Among the consent items approved was the FY26 Code of Conduct as well as the student handbooks for the elementary, middle, and high schools as well as the Success Academy. There was also an updated capitalization policy for Capital Assets. To read more, go to.

There was some special recognition at the meeting. Lonnie Giddens of Bleckley FFA was on hand to recognize Rylee Soles for winning the FFA state championship in Forestry Hand Compass Practicum and Jacob Skipper for winning the FFA state championship in Reforestation. Coach Shelly Cranford had three special recognition presentations.

He first recognized Trent Fountain for winning the middle school state track championship in discus, setting a new school record. He then recognized Brody Gibbs, Elliot Lynch, Jasper Faulk, and Matthew Adams for winning the middle school state 4 X 800m relay, also setting a new school record.

Cranford, along with coaches Arkenzio Hayes and Jeremy Marshall then recognized the high school boys track team for winning the state title. Members included Ryder Garrett, who won the 800m, 1600m, and 4 x 800m relay individual championships, Caleb Darsey, a member of the winning 4 x 800m relay team, Jack Harrell, a member of the winning 4 x 800m relay team, and Logan Camp, a member of the winning 4 x 800m relay team. Other team members on the state championship team included TJ Fountain, Garrison Rogers, Termartez Elvine, Greyson Arnold, Jeremiah Jackson, and William Arnold.

From the executive session: Approved was the resignation of Michelle Miller, 21st Century CCLC Site Coordinator, effective at the end of the school year. Zack Bryant and Kayla Odom were added to the middle school athletic staffing plan as community soccer coaches..
