Induction ceremonies held for Cochran Bleckley Sports Hall of Fame.

The third class of the Cochran Bleckley Sports Hall of Fame was inducted Saturday afternoon n the BCHS gym. This year’s class included specific teams, contributors, coaches, and outstanding individuals.

Introductions were handled by hall of fame committee members. They would introduce the athletes and read stats relevant to their induction. Here’s a look at this year’s class.

The 1966 Cochran High School girls basketball team was inducted. They won region with a 26-10 record and finished state runner up.

The 1989 BCHS baseball team was inducted.. They won sub-region, region, and finished state runner up. They also had several national records including hitting a record-setting 84 home runs.

Also inducted was the 2013 BCHS boys basketball team. Finishing as region runner up, the team went on the road for most of the state playoffs, advancing to and falling in the state title game. Their record was 28-4.

| Coaches. |
The 1978 BCHS football team was inducted. Finishing 10-0, they were the first team in Bleckley school history to go undefeated.

Keith Darsey, Vic Cooper, Diane Garner (deceased), Jerry Lanfair (deceased) and Randy Thompson were inducted as contributors.

Numerous coaches were inducted for their success in Bleckley sports. Notable names included Larry Barlow (baseball, girls basketball), Shelly Cranford (high school track, middle and high school cross country), Clifford Kerbo (boys basketball), and Brad Sanders (boys and girls tennis.)

The last group inducted was outstanding individuals. Names of note included: Woody Butts (baseball.) He hit 17 home runs one season and also hit four consecutive home runs.

Zenobia Pipkin Barlow, a four-year member of the all state team for girls basketball was inducted. Derek Padgett was a two-time MVP for boys basketball. Amarius Mims had numerous accomplishments for football including a two-time all-state selection, a member of the AJC Super 11, playing at UGA and being drafted and playing for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Jill (Couch) Peace played softball for four years at BCHS. She was a two-time all-region honorable mention and was a member of the first fastpitch team in school history to make the Sweet 16.

In closing remarks, committee member Leanna Noah said the next hall of fame would be in 2028. She said nomination forms were available in the Board of Education office located on Peter Street.
