BCHS and Fannin County met in round two of the GHSA playoffs Thursday evening. Longtime Royal fans might remember former BC coach Brent Honeywell from his time with the Rebels. Brent Honeywell Jr, also a Cochran native, graduated from Fannin.
Game one saw Bleckley build a 4-0 lead only to see the Rebels score two in the third. A misplayed fly ball gave the Royals 5-3 lead after four innings.
Fannin got one in the fifth. Though they’d get a runner on in the sixth, he was left stranded. Walker Boatright had a clean top of the seventh to preserve a 5-3 win. He struck out seven.
Charles Elliot was 2 for 3. Gavin Cole went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.
Trailing 2-0 in the top of the fourth in game two, BC loaded the bases but couldn’t score. An error led to four runs in the home half.
Bleckley loaded the bases again in the fifth but couldn’t capitalize. Though they scored three times in the sixth, they left the bases loaded for a fourth time. Fannin scored two more in the home half.
The Royals scored once in the seventh but left two more runners on base, 16 in total for the game, in losing 8-4. They had just four hits, unable to capitalize on 13 walks by Rebel pitching.
Casey Finch went 1 for 2. Game three will be tomorrow at 12:30 pm.
