No success in finale for BCHS basketball.

Saturday was the end of the regular season for BCHS basketball. It was a rematch of a Tuesday matchup in Rochelle versus Wilcox County. Neither Royal team could close out the home season with a win.

After Rickenya Jenkins got the Lady Royals within 3-2, Wilcox closed the quarter on a 7-2 run and lead 9-4 after one. WCHS led by as many as eight in the second, they led 18-12 at halftime.

The third quarter saw Bleckley get within four points on two Tyresha Williams free throws. Though a 7-1 lady Patriot run pushed their lead to ten, Bleckley gotten with 29-24 after three. BC got within one point in the fourth, but couldn't get the go-ahead basket. Wilcox pushed its lead to five later in the game.

Greg Woodard got a layup on senior night.


A Jenkins three got the Lady Royals within two points with 30 seconds left. But they couldn't complete the rally and lost 39-33. Jenkins finished with seven points, as did Korshetta Chambers. Tyresha Williams, who was scoreless in the first, finished with 16 points.

As it was senior night, Greg Woodard, who tore his ACL before the season began, got a start and scored layup. Wilcox used a 22-0 run to take a commanding 29-6 lead after one. Though the Patriot offense slowed down in the second, they led 44-24 at halftime.

The Royals did cut the lead below 30 in the third thanks to a 7-0 run but still trailed 52-29 after three quarters. BCHS lost 66-40. Vidal Nelson had 13 points. Tucker Darsey had 10, Cederick Rumph, five.

BCHS has play-in games Saturday at Toombs County. Girls action begins at 1 with the boys to follow. Bleckley must win to advance to the Region 3-AA tournament.
