The final cheer: BCHS holds cheerleading banquet.

When head coach Bonnie Scarbrough was speaking about the competition side of the 2009-10 cheerleading season at Tuesday's banquet, she said this was a year they grew and learned to be thankful for what they had. Both the competition and game squad had injury issues.

The girls though did not allow their injuries get them down and each week they were either cheering on the Royals, or performing on the blue mat. Tuesday was a night to celebrate the year and recognize the many people who helped make the season what it was.

Don Wade blessed the meal of chicken strips, green beans, macaroni and cheese, and cake. A power point slideshow with pictures from the year was shown. The first awards given were to the cheerleading booster club officers.

Both the game squad and competition squad were recognized, each group received plaques. Category awards were presented next. They were presented by grade with one receipient each from the game and competition squads. They were as follows.

| Misty Heath has plans to continue her cheerleading career in college. |
Senior cheerleaders were given medals by the coaches. In turn, the seniors had gifts for the coaches. Principal Dr. Michelle Masters and assistant principal Trey Belflower were recognized. Masters received a plaque of support as she attended games and competitions this year while nursing an injured foot.

Masters praised the work of the squad this year saying they work just as hard as any athlete especially with the risks they have. She got chuckles when she said "I wish I could keep you healthy one year." She said the cheerleaders were athletes in every sense of the word.

Scarbrough spoke about the competition season saying that this was a year to be proud of the small progress made despite the mulitude of injuries.

She said while seventh at state may've seemed dissappointing, it was something to be proud of, that many schools would like to be there. She noted how they were consistently in the top ten and stated and attributed it to the efforts of the squad and parents.

The evening ended with the competition squad receiving season-comptelation DVD's of their competitions and senior cheerleaders getting a picture slideshow DVD. Belflower dismissed the banquet in prayer. Congratulations to all the award winners.
