Bleckley County is "mad" about softball.

Like with any sport, the best softball players are those who play or practice all year round. Saturday, girls from ages 10-18 were all keeping in game shape. Several local players and teams were part of the ASA's "March Madness" held at Southern Pines.

The newest travel organization, Southern Rage, had all three of its teams in action (10 under, 12 under, 14 under.) Their 12 under team finished fourth. The Twisters played in the 18 under division. Both their games were one-run contest.

Including their second loss to the Georgia Khaos. The Warner Robins-based team has two current Lady Royals playing for them in Maggie Bell and Joanna Knight. Ellen Powell and Holly Tedders were both in action as part of of the Middle Georgia Flames, now a 14 and under team.

The Middle Georgia Motion had both its 10 and 12 and under teams playing. The 10 under team picked up a win while the 12 and under made it to their second straight championship game. It was against the only team to beat them on the day, the Tanel360 Bandits.

Though unable to hold onto an early 2-0 lead, the Motion picked up their second straight trophy. More importantly, the team, like all the other local participants, got a full day to keep their skills fresh.

The Motion 12 and under have began their season with two straight second place trophies. They'll be part of the Camsports Class C Perry Shootout next weekend in Perry. |
