The life of the BCHS competition cheerleaders is quite hectic right now. Besides cheerring at football games on Friday nights as part of the game squad, they're also having to learn their routine along with their other day-to-day responsibilities. It makes for many late Friday nights and early Saturday mornings.
The Royals began their drive for their tenth region title and third state title on Saturday when they competed in the Middle Georgia Cheer Classic at Houston County High School. The Royals were the first AA squad to compete.
As they were prearing to enter the gym, chants such as "Let's Go Royals" broke out from the huge crowd of parents and supporters that had packed into what was a very hot gym. The squad acknowledged the cheers from the other side, and walked out with the same confidence they'd shown so many times before. They were greated with a loud ovation.
The performance itself was good for a first performance, though there were things will be worked on as the season continues. All the stunts that went up stuck. However there appeared to be some timing issues on some of the tumbling, and some of the stunts did not go up as planned. Bleckley though got another great hand as they left for the effort and hard work they displayed.
As is often the case after a competition, there was a jump-off and lib off competition. Brittnay Blash did well in the jump-off, and two groups of Royals participated in the lib-off. When the results were finally read, Bleckley's name was not announced. The raw scores had the Royals in first place. However, deductions knocked the scores down. Knowing though that first place was there and what went wrong makes it easier to get it right. And competitoins like Saturday are designed to give squads the opportunity to perform and get their routines ready for region and state.
BCHS will compete at Toombs County on September 23 at 2 p.m.
