Jessi Young, the 2012 Bleckley County Homecoming Queen, was crowned the 2012 America's Homecoming Queen at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, California on July 23.

Jessi was first runner-up in the state pageant, but the Georgia Homecoming Queen could not compete at the national pageant, so Jessi was crowned the Georgia Homecoming Queen. She received word of the title the day before she returned from her senior trip in Europe. She only had two weeks to prepare for the national pageant.

America's Homecoming Queen Pageant began in 1981. Each high school homecoming queen in all 50 states is invited to participate in the state pageants. The winner of the state pageant recieves a scholarship to the school of her choice and an all-expense paid trip to the national pageant at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California.

The state representatives presented a one minute speech about their states. They also presented a two minute video about their community service and activities they are involved with. Each contestant particiapted in a three minute interview with each individual judge. The contestants were also judged on onstage introduction and evening gown. Judges for the pageant were selected from the fields of education, travel, and public relations. They were looking for the all American girl.

Jessi was named as one of the top ten. She then had to be judged in evening gown and answer an onstage question. The top five was announced. Fourth runner-up was Miss Illinois, Bridgette Lonergran; third runner-up was Miss Okalahoma, Ariel Helms; second runner-up was Miss Minnesota, Emily Lundgren; and first runner-up ws Miss Iowa, Tess Kilpatrick. America's Homecoming Queen was Georgia, Jessi Young.

Jessi will receive another scholarship from the national pageant. As America's Homecoming Queen, Jessi will also be the queen for the Auto Zone Liberty Bowl in Tennessee. She will be involved with bowl activities in January in Memphis, Tennessee.

Jessi is very excited to represent Bleckley County and now the nation as America's Homecoming Queen. She sees this as an opportunity to be a good role model for teens.
