Rec. Department joins National Alliance for Youth Sports.

The Cochran Bleckley Recreation Department is excited about the upcoming football season and the opportunity to provide our youth with the best programs possible. In an effort to move toward this goal, we have formed a local chapter of the National Alliance for Youth Sports and we will be providing required training for all of our coaches for all sports through the National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA).

Through this program coaches will be provided with liability insurance coverage as well as other benefits. This will also insure that we meet GRPA certification requirements for all-star tournament play. We feel this is a wonderful opportunity for our department as well as our community.

The NYSCA is a collection of research, resources, and tools to help communities create a safe and successful youth sports program. The program is a way to demonstrate to players, coaches and families that our leagues intent is providing the highest level of positive experience for our children. NYSCA certification offers us a way to orient and train our coaches in techniques that will help them to do their best as well as offer a practical way to help them be a good role model while providing a safe environment for all participating.

Our dedication to our youth will continue through the values and training provided through our newly formed chapter. Volunteer coaches are the backbone of youth sports at our recreation department and we are providing each volunteer with the tools and skills necessary to mold our youth not only athletically but to also instill core values and ethical ideals.

ALL coaches, including assistant coaches are required by our organization to be certified by NYSCA. So if you are interested in coaching ANY sport at our facility please come by and obtain a new coaches application and sign up for our training class. Our first classes will be held on September 6, 2014 and September 13, 2014 both at 9:00 am. You need only attend one of these classes.

The fee for this class will be $20.00 which is the fee charged to us by NYSCA for your training materials and member benefits you will receive. This class will be for all of those wishing to coach during our football season. There will be newly formed classes before each sport so everyone will have the opportunity to take the class needed to coach each sport.

After completion of your class you will have obtained an initial level membership of the NYSCA. Coaches who successfully complete the Initial Level Membership training, whether at a live on-site clinic or online, will automatically receive:

Access to the free NYSCA Concussion Training program which covers the legal requirement to coach in many states
$1,000,000 liability insurance policy
High quality membership card with key tag
Youth Sports Journal (issued at clinic)
A subscription to SportingKid Magazine
