Alexis Ligon had the Lady Royals first basket.

The season series between Putnam County and BCHS wrapped up Tuesday evening in Cochran. With the season winding down, both teams were seeking wins. A girls win would tie them for first place in 4-AA.

Jahnaria Brown was fouled on this shot.

Alexis Ligon and Destiny Pallord had four points each as the Lady Royals led 13-10 after one. Kiley Moe scored five points in the final four minutes of the first half to help BC lead by three.

Kiley Moe put Bleckley up five with this basket.

Things changed in the third quarter. Bleckley was outscored 19-4 and trailed 40-28 going to the fourth. They got no closer than eight until a Ligon basket in the final seconds, losing 49-42. She had 12. Team foul shooting in the fourth was 4 of 13.

Markell Marshall broke a long first quarter drought for the Royals.

Down 14-6 after one quarter, a basket by Kentrez Jenkins cut the deficit to four. Putnam ran off nine straight. Shamar Slappy scored the final four points of a 10-2 run to end the half, drawing the Royals to within 25-20.

The Eagles would lead by as much as 11 in the third but Bleckley had gotten within 43-38 going to the fourth. A deficit of eight was cut to two with 15 seconds left on a Slappy basket. Down three with ten seconds left, an offensive foul prevented any game-tying shot attempt.

Shamar Slappy scored despite the double team.

BCHS went on to lose 52-48. Slappy had a career best 10, Markell Marshall had 15. Willie Taylor had 13. Bleckley travels to Crawford County Friday. Tip time is 7 pm.
