Bad night in Bear Country for BCHS.

BCHS wrapped up their season series Tuesday with Houston County. Both Bleckley teams were coming off disappointing home losses to Macon County.

Jahnaria Brown scored the Lady Royals final four points in the first quarter.


Four straight points by Jahnaria Brown helped lift the Lady Royals to an 8-5 lead after one. For the second straight game. they were held to single digits in a quarter, outscored by Hoston County 25-2 in the second.

After scoring just six points in the third, BC came alive in the fourth, cutting what was once a 30-point deficit to 15. But it was too little, too late as they lost 51-34. Alexis Ligon had 10. Foul shooting was 8 of 20.

The Royals sprinted out to a 10-2 lead but a Bear buzzer beating three capped their 11-0 finish to lead 13-10. BC would be down by as much as seven in the second but Kevonn Farrow's three in the final minute capped eight straight to give them a 21-20 lead at halftime.

Willie Taylor got the Royals on the board with this three point shot.


Tied at 27 in the third, HoCo tried to gain separation in with a 14-2 run. Shamar Slappy's buzzer beating three made it a nine-point game going to the fourth. Down 13 in the fourth, three's by Jeremy Marshall and Spencer Smith cut the deficit to seven.

Markell Marshall hit a pair of free throws with 1:52 remaining to get Bleckley within four. But there would be no comeback as the Royals lost 59-51. Willie Taylor had 14. Free throw shooting was 12 of 20.

Region play resumes Friday at Lamar County. JV girls tip at 5:15 pm, varsity to follow
