Logan Williamson returned to cheerleading after taking a year off.

For the first time in several years, there were separate cheerleading squads for football, competition, and basketball. Because of that, and the fact a majority of the football and competition squads do not cheer for basketball, a separate football awards ceremony was needed.

Freshmen Academic award winners L-R: Calli White, Savannah Stokes, Donna Stewart, Allison Smith, Taylor Ramage, Emily Collins, Regan Cole.

One was held Thursday night in the high school auditorium. It was an exciting season for the squad, cheering on BCHS as they earned a third straight state playoff appearance. Head coach Heather Davis thanked administrators and parents for their support during opening remarks. She also thanked Middle Georgia State College for donating the refreshments enjoyed beforehand.

Letter certificates were given out after a slideshow. Davis made a point to stress how important it was for cheerleaders to keep their GPA up during Academic Award presentations, saying cheerleading was a "privilege." She encouraged freshmen to get in the habit of keeping their grades up now as upperclassmen would testify that it got more difficult as they got older.

Davis said the Captain's Award was important because it was voted on by the squad and reflected how you thought of by your peers. It went to Wade and Madison Powell. The evening ended with gifts given to the seniors. Congratulations to all the award winners.
