Though both are in elementary school, Mishayla Brown and Darci Dillard got into the spirit as Thing 2 and Thing 1. Darci's mom, Amanda, is a teacher at BCPS.

In Dr. Seuss' "The Cat in the Hat," the cat came to visit Dick and Sally on a cold, rainy day. Not unlike the weather Thursday afternoon. While there was no mischief going on at Bleckley Primary, there was reading fun that would make the Cat, as well as Dr. Seuss, happy.

BCPS held their second annual Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration. It was designed to help promote literacy in fun ways. Children could swap books at the book swap, win books in the book walk, or play games such as "Hop On Pop to Punctuation."

Dantte Rogers, recently named Bleckley Primary Special Educatin Teacher of the Year, manned the book swap.

They could also take AR (advanced reading) tests on the computer as well as write phrases they wanted to work on to a top hat then color the hat. Success at games would net candy. Birthday cupcakes were also given out.

What's a celebration of Seuss without getting to shop at the book fair?

Even at 5:30, there were still families arriving. Dr. Seuss might say "It was a time of learning And a time of play. We all had fun. On this day."

The Cat in the Hat (Jenny Jackson) was there to check on the games and give out hugs.
