The Cochran Bleckley Recreation Department board held their monthly meeting Monday night. Amongst the things discussed: The board voted to purchase 100 new football helmets that would be in compliance with current safety standards.

Athletics director Andy Brand said they were going to explore the option of playing GRPA all star basketball and hosting a tournament. Brand also said they would be meeting with Dixie Youth Softball officials in August in regards to softball all stars for next year.

Rec. Director David Harrell spoke first on the issue of playing up (IE: an eight-year old playing 10-u softball.) He said he wanted to make all the divisions good enough to where parents and players would not want to play up.

One thing that will be done is improvements to Tee Ball. Starting will fall ball, a focus will be placed on teaching baseball fundamentals to the players. A seven-run limit per inning (one team can only score seven times in an inning) will be in place. Outs will be recorded.

After discussion and audience comments on playing up, the board voted to ban the practice for one year. For fall ball, it was noted that signups end Wednesday at noon. A baseball or softball camp will be included with all registrations.
