Alyssa Fortune's 10 points was her second best this season.


The second half of middle school basketball season began Monday as Swainsboro traveled to Cochran. The Lady Barons and Tigers won when the teams met in January.

BC had a seven-point lead after one quarter and was up 21-9 at halftime. Alyssa Fortune had eight in the first half. A 17-5 third quarter run by the Lady Tigers was halted on Za'Tesa Taylor's putback as time expired. Though BC scored just six fourth quarter points, they won 34-25. Fortune had 10 points.

Jayleen James' three with 14 seconds left in the first made it 9-0. But the Tigers answered with a buzzer beating three. They outscored the Barons 8-2 in the second, tying things at 11. Though not making a basket in the third, BC was down 16-13 going to the fourth.

Bryce Bailey's layup with 44 seconds left tied the score at 18. It was the final basket of regulation, forcing overtime. The Tigers took a 24-22 lead thanks to a basket then steal and basket with 20 seconds left. Ty Williams was fouled, he hit two free throws with 18 seconds remaining, sending the game to another overtime.

Bleckley had a 32-30 lead in the final minutes. Despite missing seven straigth free throws, they held on 33-30. Teams travel to East Laurens Thursday. Tip time is 4 pm
