Open House for DOT widening of SR 87 June 20.

The Georgia Department of Transportation will hold an open house to allow public review and comment on the proposed detour for the SR 87/Cochran Bypass Widening and reconstruction project. It will be June 20 from 4-6 pm at Bleckley County High School.

Besides the widening, the $12 million dollar project will convert an at-grade railroad crossing to an overpass bridge. Right turn lanes and a signal will be added at the intersection of Chester Road/SR 126 and the Bypass.

During construction of the bridge, traffic will be detoured off the bypass and onto SR 87 Business. A second detour is proposed later in the construction process once the bypass widening and bridge construction are completed. Traffic will be detoured off SR 87 Business while that roadway is tied into the Bypass.

The open house will provide an opportunity to view the proposed project detours, ask questions, and comment. It will be informal with no presentation.

This meeting will be accessible to persons with disabilities. Those needing accommodations for people with disabilities should call Cissy McNure in advance, (478)-553-3407.
