Busy first meeting for Board of Education.

The Board of Education held their first meeting of 2017 last night. It was busy with several things voted on. Board officer elections were held. Kim Wright was elected as chair. Derek Belflower was elected as vice-chair. According to meeting minutes, terms are for two years.

New member Mike Sasser was approved by other members as Legislative Liaison. The board also approved proposed meeting dates for 2017.

On the personnel front, the board accepted the resigination of band director Scott Mathews, effective at the end of this school year. Mathews was hired in the summer of 2012 following the retirement of Louis Foster. Shane Savant was approved as a non-compensated community baseball coach for BCHS.

Savant is head coach of the Middle Georgia Warriors travel baseball team. He coached the 2015 10-u all star baseball team to a third place finish at the Dixie Youth state tournament.
