A former Royal will once again lead the BCHS football program as Von Lassiter was named head coach at a called Board of Education meeting Tuesday night. Lassiter will start March 1 pending release from his current contract in Houston County. He was selected from 43 candidates.

Lassiter, a former player and 1997 graduate of Bleckley County. served as an assistant for two years under Sam Barrs. He accumulated a 33-12 record (courtesy Georgia High School Football Historians site) in four years as Bears head coach. Included were two trips to the quarterfinals with All American Quarterback Jake Fromm.

In speaking to assembled media, Principal Dr. Trey Belflower said Lassiter told him he was wanting to come home. Lassiter will also be the school's new athletic director. Superintendent Steve Smith said current athletic director Benjy Rogers has expressed a desire to give up those duties. Rogers will remain in that role until the end of the school year.

Smith had praise for Rogers work as AD as well as adaptive PE coach. He said Rogers had been the face of Bleckley County for many years because of the many roles he's filled. Smith added "He'll always be a Bleckley County Royal."
