Parents sign in at a table that had information about things like upcoming Touchdown Club fundraisers.

Von Lassiter was excited Thursday night. The new BCHS head football coach in his first public comments since being hired said he didn't need a microphone because he talked loud. He not only spoke with a booming voice, he spoke with passion.

A mixture of football parents and supporters along with several school administrators were in the high school auditorium for what was first a football meeting then becoming a parent information session. Lassiter said he was excited to be back in Cochran because of the passion for football as well as other extra curricular activities.

Though Lassiter has coached in region and state championship game, he said his biggest thril as a coach came in 2006 when the Royals took on Lovett in the elite eight at Lakeview Stadium in Atlanta. He said the "hairs on the back of his neck stood up" at the amount of fan support on hand. He wants to do that again.

New coaches hired Tuesday night, Stacy Nobles and Randall Owens, as well as Sean Patrick hired last month, along with the rest of the coaching staff on hand were introduced. Lassiter called the staff "top tier."

But Lassiter said his first focus wasn't winning football games. He said they (the coaches) wanted to help players become good men. Lassiter said by doing that, winning on Friday nights would be a byproduct. He said they have a passion for kids and helping kids.

In terms of offense, they'll run a spread with multiple formations. Fans may recall Sam Barrs ran the spread during his final years at BCHS. Lassiter said they wanted to play fast on offense, speed teams up. Defensively, they'll run what's known as a 3-4 but said the focus would be to stop what the other team does.

One thing Lassiter stressed several times was the need and desire for community involvement. To encourage the players, regardless of the score. He invited everyone to join the Booster Club and said there would be opportunities to help for anyone wanting to get involved.

Fans will get an early chance to see how things look. The team will play a spring football game for the first time in school history May 19 at Howard High School. After both meetings concluded, Lassiter said many players would take snaps and it would be an opportunity for coaches to evaluate players, similar to past scrimmages played in August.

He thanked everyone for coming out before beginning the parent's meeting.
