Boys win, girls fourth, at region track championship. ***Updated with results April 22.***

Though unable to maintain their second place standing after one day, the BCHS girls finished fourth at the 3-AA track championship. They will send six athletes to sectionals (finishing in the top four of their event.)

Girls track team members qualifying for sectionals were:

Sarah Green- First in 1600 meter run.
Austin Perez- Second in 1600 meter run, first in 3200 meter run.
McKinley Cranford- Second in 3200 meter run.
T'Keyah Pasby- Third in discus, third in shot put.
Faith Harris- First in pole valut.
Leah Rogers- Second in pole vault.

The boys led by over 20 points after day one. Will Simmons generated excitement that Wednesday by breaking the school record in pole vault, clearing 14'8". They went on to win a second straight region title and will have 11 athletes going to sectionals.

Qualifying for sectionals are:

Nykeem Farrow- First in 100 meter dash, second in 200 meter dash, third in long jump.
Carl Ellis Corley- First in 1,600 meter run, first in 3200 meter run.
Garrett Rogers- Third in 1,600 meter run, third in 3,200 meter run.
4x100 team of Torenio Davis, Bryce Bailey, Nykeem Farrow, Arkenzio Hayes, second.
Jaylen Thigpen- First in 800 meter run.
Austin Hirner- Second in 800 meter run.
Torenio Davis- First in high jump.

Will Simmons- First in pole vault (broke school record), third in high jump.
Lequan Allen- Fourth in long jump.
Porter Arnold- Second in pole vault.
Willie Taylor- First in shot put.
Arkenzio Hayes- Third in triple jump.

State sectionals will be April 29 at Ben Hill County Middle School in Fitzgerald. Those finishing either at the top of their heat in short distance races (IE: 800 meter run) or with one of the top four fastest times in either heat will qualify for finals. The top eight finishers in the 1,600 and 3,200 as well as top eight finishers in field events will advance to the finals.

This year, both the boys and girls track finals will be at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany May 11-13. According to a statement on the GHSA website, the change in venue is due to stadium renovation of Memorial Stadium in Jefferson where the Georgia Olympics (boys state) had been held.
