Another good day on the mat.

Though BCMS was closer to home for their second competition, making the short trip to Dexter for the West Laurens Raider Rumble, they faced a steep battle in numbers. The Barons were one of ten squads. Some of their competitors came from counties with 4 and 5A high schools.

As it was close to home, a large crowd woke up early to come out in support. The familiar chant of “Bleckley County!” could be heard as the squad prepared to take the mat. Fans were treated to a good performance that included sharp tumbling, nice jumps, and high energy. On the downside, one stunt group came down early, and part of the pyramid fell.

Otherwise, fans saw that while this year’s squad may be young and not as deep as in past years, there was still plenty of talent on the mat. That would be shown when awards were announced. BCMS finished second. South Effingham Middle School, the district school for perennial 5A contender South Effingham High School, placed first.

South Effingham also won both the jump off and longest lib (lib off) competitions as well. BCMS competed in the longest lib, and was one of the final squads. In finishing second, they outscored four other MGMSAA squads.

Bleckley returns to the mat October 14 at the Sweet Onion Cheer Classic hosted by Vidalia High School.
