The car rider line at Bleckley Primary has been a sore spot of parents for years and a worry for administrators. Often times, the line will stretch down Peter Street all the way onto GA 26 (Dykes Street.)
At last night’s Board of Education meeting, Bleckley Primary principal presented a new idea. Traffic would be queue on Peter Street down 12th Street.

Other entrances to Peter Street would be blocked off, signs directing people to the line. After discussion, the board approved the plan. It will go into effect January 6 when students return from Christmas break.
In other news, three of the four candidates who had applied to fill the unexpired term of District 2 board member Mildred Bloodworth were in attendance. Speaking briefly on why they should be appointed to fill the seat were: Linda Ates, Maude Brown, and Diane Lester.
Board chair Kim Wright asked each candidate if they would run for election once the term had expired, all answered yes. Dorothy Elvine, also a candidate, was unable to attend. The board will select a candidate by the December 17 meeting.
The four-time state champion girls cross country team was recognized. Team members had their choice of a Subway gift card or phone koozie. Superintendent Steve Smith listed the resume of Shelly Cranford during his 31-year coaching career- 48 high school region titles, eight high school state titles. 36 middle school region titles and four middle school state titles.
In the Superintendent’s Report, Smith said the HVAC projects at Bleckley Elementary and BCHS were complete. Final payout information will be presented at the December meeting. In terms of finances, he said 33.3 percent of the year had elapsed, and 32.8 percent of the budget had been spent.
From the Executive Session- Faith Hulsey was officially approved as JV girls basketball coach and varsity assistant. Hulsey is a former BCMS head coach. Randy Thompson was officially added as boys assistant basketball coach as well as academic team coach. Melissa Blankenship was named BCMS tennis head coach for both the girls and boys teams.
