The Cochran Bleckley Rec. Department board held their monthly meeting Monday night. It was relatively short. From the financial department, they believed they would have enough money to make it through the end of the year.
Updating the situation regarding scorekeepers who worked during the 2019 church softball tournament, the workers never filled out their paperwork. During the director’s report, director Andy Brand provided updates on how opening day went for soccer and baseball.
Brand said there over 700 people in attendance for soccer, almost 1,000 for football. He said games ran on time and they got out at a reasonable time. Board member Rich Hulsey said he was out there for both opening days and things went well.
Member Chan Jones noted one day when he was the department, he noticed a lot of cars there. Brand said as other teams begin to come in, attendance should increase which would benefit concessions. Because there’s just one 10u and 12u football team, each will play neighboring counties.
Brand discussed how proud he was of the rec. department being chosen to host the 2022 Dixie Youth Softball 6u and 8u world series. He said it was a great opportunity to not only highlight the park but Cochran and Bleckley County also. He said a lot of work would need to be done to prepare. He said he wanted them to attend the 2021 world series so they could get a feel on how others do it.
Brand said he planned to form committees that would help with individual teams. Board chair Carmen Pearce said several business owners had approached her about helping, some serving as team moms.
In other business, Hulsey mentioned the Dodge-BCHS game being moved to Thursday. Brand said he was aware of the change and planned to postpone games Thursday so that players and families could attend.
The meeting ended with a brief executive session. The Cochran Bleckley Rec. Department board meets on the first Monday of each month at 6 pm (except on holidays.)
