Coming off last Thursday’s close win against Dodge County, one might expect BCHS to have a letdown as they made the long trip to Monticello Friday night. However, the Royal offense was on fire as they routed the Hurricanes.

Jahvon Butler outruns a defender to the endzone.

It started on Bleckley’s first possession when Dominic Sasser connected with Eli Mullis on a 33-yard catch and run for a score. The offense struck quick again on their next drive when Sasser hit Markeze Brown on a 44-yard strike. With 4:36 left in the first, the Royals led 14-0.

A fumble by the Hurricanes was recovered by Bleckley on the Monticello 35. One minute later, a Sasser to Chuckie Stephens eight-yard pass pushed the lead to 21-0.

Nehemiah Mack is in on the stop.

The Hurricanes got on the board in the final minute with a 52-yard punt return for six. A two-point conversion attempt failed. They struck again on a 45-yard interception return. Though the conversion failed, Monticello was within 21-12.

James Fordham connected on a 27-yard field goal early in the second to push the lead to 24-12. Later on, Jahvon Butler dashed for 51-yards to the endzone. With about four minutes left in the half, BC led 31-20.

Eli Mullis had a career night in both receptions and rushing.

The Canes though answered. Aided by a conversion on fourth and 13 from the BC 20, they got a six-yard touchdown run with 1:05 left in the half. This time, they would make the two-point conversion and cut the deficit to 31-20.

No one was near Jaden Mobly as he scored.

Bleckley though wasted little time in getting back down the field. With just 28 seconds left in the half, Sasser found a diving Mullis in the endzone for his second touchdown catch, Sasser’s third TD pass. The Royals led 38-20 at halftime.

On their first play from scrimmage in the third quarter, Sasser connected with Jaden Mobley on a 59-yard touchdown reception. Bleckley’s defense would then stop the Hurricanes on fourth and goal from the five.

After getting the ball on downs, BC reached their 25. That’s when Sasser would connect with Mobley again, this time on a 75-yard touchdown pass. It was 52-20 with seven minutes left in the third.

What was already a career night for Sasser was capped on an 81-yard catch and run to Brown with 3:58 left in the third. The Royals put up 627 yards of offense in winning 59-20.

Sasser was 13 of 27 for 394 yards, seven touchdowns, one interception. The yards and touchdowns were career bests. Brown caught two passes for 121 yards. Mobley had five receptions for 119 yards. Mullis caught four passes for 59 yards and rushed for 70 yards on six carries.

Butler rushed for 93 yards on five carries. Stephens had 77 yards on 10 carries.

Defensively, Willie Harris had four tackles, four assists. Caden Maxwell and Quintavis (Scooter) Slappy each had four tackles, two assists. Tyler Wilcox had four tackles, one assist. BCHS will celebrate Homecoming when they host Lamar County October 23. Kickoff is 7:30 pm.
