Tyler Wilcox is in on the play.

Years ago when both teams were in 4-AA, BCHS and Lamar were fierce football rivals. The Trojans had several D-1 players including Qua Searcy and twins Lawrence and Lance Austin. But in Friday’s matchup, the first since 2015, the Royals were clearly the better team.

Caden Maxwell had a big game on defense.

It started when senior Jacob Johnson caught his first varsity touchdown pass, a 33-yard catch and run from Dominic Sasser. Though the point after missed, BC led 6-0 with 5:40 left in the first.

Demetreus Pope and Nehemiah Mack combine on the stop.

James Fordham knocked home a 20-yard field goal in the second to increase the lead. Chuckie Stephens scored from three yards out with 4:47 left in the half. Shon Jenkins intercepted a Trojan pass on their next possession as Bleckley took a 16-0 lead to the dressing room.

In the third, Tyler Wilcox’s interception plus a facemask penalty put the ball on the Trojan six. But penalties would back up BC and the drive stalled Lamar’s 22. The Trojans were forced to punt. Zeb Dubois’ tackle caused the return man to fumble, it was recovered by Caden Maxwell at LC’s 20.

Sasser connected on his second touchdown pass, 11 yards to Jaden Mobly with 2:55 left. Jahvon Butler helped set up the final score in the fourth, his 25-yard run put the offense on Lamar’s 27. Stephens scored from a yard out with 8:33 remaining in the game.

Jahvon Butler had several big runs.

Wilcox got his second interception of the game on the Trojans next possession. Bleckley’s offense stalled on the LC 29. A drive to the Trojan 24 late in the game resulted in another turnover on downs, but the Royals would celebrate Homecoming in a big way winning 30-0.

Zeb Dubois forced a fumble on this tackle.

Sasser went 14 of 26 for 134 yards and two touchdowns. Mobly caught five passes for 69 yards. Butler rushed for 111 yards on 28 carries. Stephens had 74 yards on 18 attempts. Defensively, Willie Harris six tackles, two assists.

The official saw Jaden Mobly get both feet in bounds.

Christian Newbern had six tackles. Demetrius Pope and Caden Maxwell had four tackles each. The Royals play at Northeast October 29. Kickoff is 7 pm at Brad Henderson Stadium.

Fans were treated to a fireworks show sponsored by the Cochran Bleckley Chamber of Commerce after the game.
