Short but productive rec. board meeting held.

As there were games happening, Monday night’s monthly rec. board meeting was short. There was, however, news to come from it.

Things look much better for the rec. department. Director Andy Brand said all SPLOST payments had been completed. They currently had $11,185 in SPLOST funds to spend.

Speaking of things financial, Rich Hulsey asked about the possibility of the department doing a small donation to the BCHS Tip-Off Club in support of high school basketball. Brand said the subject had come up in the past, someone said to him it didn’t look good for one nonprofit to be donating to another.

A suggestion was made by Jon Thrower about someone doing a personal donation on behalf of CBRD. Brand said that would be fine and indicated he would likely do it. Thrower requested Hulsey speak to him about it, offering to handle the matter himself.

Brand mentioned that winter soccer registration was happening now through November 20. He also said they had received a grant for equipment from Atlanta United FC. Details would be provided soon.

When asked about plans for hosting the 2021 Dixie Youth World Series, Brand said things were moving right along. He said another planning meeting would be held after Christmas.

Brand mentioned an opening night for T-Ball was held on October 30. He said teams are five players, allowing for more individual coaching. He said during a game, players would rotate the five infield positions each inning (IE: the person playing first base would move to second.)

Other notes: new lighting is being installed on the fields. Board member Spencer Johnson will be resigning due to schedule conflicts. Brand said members could talk to him about possible replacements.

The meeting adjourned around 6:19 pm.
