After last year’s third place finish at state, excitement had been building for this year’s BCHS competition season. Despite a delayed start due to COVID-19 concerns, and the squad having to make a last-minute change to the routine this week due to unforeseen circumstances, families and fans were ready to see BC take the mat.
Saturday, the Royals made their season debut at the West Laurens Raider Rumble. Though no tickets were sold at the door, a large contingent of supporters were on hand to cheer them on.
In terms of debuts, one would’ve never known it was their first competition, nor that any last-minute changes had to be made. All stunts stuck and were tight. Jumps were solid. Clean transitions, great motions.
Fans roared afterward. Squad members could be seen hugging each other as well as head coach Heather Davis. They cheered again when BC re-entered the gym to wait for results.
Bleckley finished second, 1.5 points behind defending state champion Vidalia. Many believed this could be a special year, today built on that belief. The Royals will be in action December 12 at the Middle Georgia Cheer Classic. It will he held this year at Northside High School.
