Like other sports, high school basketball was affected by COVID-19, seeing its start date pushed back due to football’s start date being delayed to September. That directly affected the BCHS boys as several players are still playing football. It’s also prevented practices.

Tuesday night, both teams tipped off their regular season at home versus Twiggs County. The Lady Cobras had eighth grade players on their roster, meaning the game had seven minute quarters.

Heartland EMS, State Bank of Cochran, and Middle Georgia State University were Tuesday night's game sponsors. Pictured with boys head coach Garrett Collins are Michael Johnson, Jed Evans, and MGA men's head basketball coach Scott Moe.

BCHS sprinted out to a 27-3 lead and was up 48-15 at halftime. Slowing of the tempo and reserves playing were the only things keeping the final score being larger. The Lady Royals still won handily 67-32.

Kiara Gilbert had 15 points. Jalexia Taylor and Kemyah Anderson had 12 points each. Jayda James added 10 points.

The Royals were down 17-5 In the second quarter but closed 7-2 to draw within seven at halftime. Trailing 27-21 going to the fourth, Twiggs opened on a 13-2 run. Though BC responded with an 11-3 run of their own, it was too little too late.

Ja’Mareon Beck scored in BC's 7-2 spurt to end the first half.

Bleckley lost 43-34. Amarion Blackshear had 13 points. The Royals host Veterans High School December 12. JV girls play at 4:15 pm with varsity to follow.
