Cheerleaders have solid return after long layoff.

On the surface, it might seem unusual for a cheerleading squad to attend a competition where they’re the only one in their division. But for BCHS, going to the Eagle Classic hosted by Northside High School was what they really needed.

It’d been nearly a month since the squad last competed. During the holiday break, numerous girls had to quarantine. This week, after just getting everyone back, a member of one stunt group had to miss a practice due to strep throat.

So Saturday provided a chance to get re-acclimated to competing without worrying about any rivals. It was an overall solid performance with good energy, good motions, good jumps,. The only visible issues were one partner stunt not going up and one stunt group not staying up.

Supporters still cheered when first place was announced. Because they saw this BC squad do what they’d done many times before. Perform well despite adverse circumstances.

Photo contributed by squad after performing to avoid having to stand in the cold after the competition completed. COVID restrictions prevent photos from being taken indoors.

Bleckley returns to action January 23 in Perry.
