Girls break skid in split with Southwest.

Jalexia Taylor had another big game.


Region play continued Friday night as BCHS hosted Southwest. After a big second quarter, the Lady Royals held off a late charge to get a needed win while the Royals couldn’t dig out of an early hole.

BC led 33-16 at halftime on the strength of a 20-6 second quarter. Up by as many as 21 in the third, the Lady Patriots were within 15 by the fourth. The deficit shrunk to eight before a 16-6 close secured BC’s 68-48 win.

Trinity Glover had a career-best 16 points. Jalexia Taylor had 15 points. Kiara Gilbert added 11 points.

Down 15 points after one quarter, TJ Mays hit three three’s to help draw the Royals to within 36-27 at halftime. Down 7 going to the fourth, BC got within five only to see the Patriots pull away with a 9-1 burst.

TJ Mays had a career-high in points.


Southwest prevailed 66-54. Mays had a career-best 15 points. Amarion Blackshear led with 16 points. Ethan Hulsey had 10 points.

The basketball squad cheerleaders performed at halftime of the boys game.


A girls game between Perry and the Lady Royals was finalized Friday afternoon. JV play tomorrow at 11 am with varsity to follow.

Shon Jenkins lays one in.
