The Cochran Fire Department announced four of their firefighters were selected as Employees of the Month at Tuesday’s city council meeting. Darryl Poole, Noah Kincaid, Andris Perri, and Austin Wood all received the honor. Each had recently passed the test to become certified by the State of Georgia.
At the work session held earlier, Chief Brock Wilcher presented a proposal to the council regarding an automatic aid agreement with the Bleckley County Fire Department. Under the agreement, city fire would respond to all structure fires up to three miles from the station located at 134 First Street.

In turn, the county fire department would respond to all structure fires within the city limits. According to a release, county residents in the automatic aid zone wouldn’t be required to pay a fire fee. It would be in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There would be no reimbursement costs to either party involved.
Wilcher said the agreement would provide the best fire protection to both city and county residents. During the regular meeting, council voted to allow Wilcher to present the agreement to Commissioner Mike Davis.
