Middle Georgia State University announced Tuesday it plans to offer a Master of Arts in Public Relations next year. The fully online degree was approved by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia during their Tuesday meeting.

Pending approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, MGA plans to offer the degree in spring 2022. According to a release, the degree will be housed in MGA’s School of Arts and Letters and is designed “to prepare students to begin or enhance careers as public relations professionals, market research analysts, or marketing specialists and managers.”

The new program will be the only free-standing master’s degree in public relations offered in the state. It came about following a survey of 1,000 undergraduates. Nearly 60 percent expressed interest in a public relations master’s degree.

If approved by SACSCOC, it will be the sixth master’s degree offered by the university.
