With all star state tournaments happening as well as preparation to host the 6 and 8u Dixie Youth World Series in 2022, there were many things to discuss at Monday night’s monthly rec. board meeting.

Plans were being finalized on housing of teams as well as where to hold opening ceremonies of the world series. At a cost of $2,500, opening ceremonies will be held at the Porter Center located on the campus of Oconee Fall Line Technical College in Dublin.

Rec. department staff will be traveling to various world series later this month to get a feel for how things are done. Because of travel, the monthly August meeting has been moved to August 9.

Monday morning, Director Andy Brand and Field Supervisor Allan Yawn met with County Commissioner Mike Davis to request $250,000 in COVID relief funds. The funds would go toward various improvement projects including lighting on some of the fields as well as installing fencing in the park.

The fencing’s purpose would be to make access points where money could taken up, allowing for easier entry into park. According to Brand, Davis said he had questions but would consider the matter.

In speaking about all stars, Brand said he was proud of all the teams. He recapped how all have done: 8u baseball won state, 8 and 10u softball finished state runner up, 10u baseball advanced to bracket play at state this weekend.

Brand was appreciative of the many people who had helped with hosting state tournaments. He mentioned Tracy Rycroft, one of the CBRD Volunteers of the Year, for brining his golf cart to the park last weekend to offer rides.

Brand said registration had begun for fall soccer and football and would begin next week for fall baseball/softball/T-Ball. Brand noted that numbers for fall ball had been declining, He said a decision on whether to offer in the future would be made based upon how signups went this year.

Chan Jones went over financials, asking about payrolls that needed to be made, other expenses. After determining they would have money even with all bills being paid, he suggested doing projects which needed to take place now (IE: the fencing) with money from the general fund then reimburse the fund with SPLOST money after it adds up.

The meeting dismissed around 6:38 pm.
