BCHS was in Vidalia Saturday morning for regional/sectional competition. The goal was twofold. While doing in well in region was an obvious priority, being among the top 16 teams overall to qualify for a state championship berth was also important.

An extra large group of supporters made trip down I-16 that morning to cheer on the squad. There were several regions competing, BC was the final one from Region 2A, Division 1. A chant of “Let’s Go Royals” could be heard was the squad awaited their call to the mat.

The BC supporters roared as Bleckley entered the gym. The squad an overall good performance. Good jumps, great energy, great execution, good tumbling.

Unfortunately, one of the stunt groups came down early and did not go back up to attempt the other stunts. Still, it was a good showing which the crowd cheered as BC exited the mat after performing.

There was an anxious feeling waiting for results. The Royals were announced as region runner up. While no one was unhappy, a look at the scoresheets did raise some questions, and some frustration with the judging.

However, head coach Heather Davis quickly shot that down, saying they didn’t take care of business. Did BC do enough to earn a state berth? Later in evening, the answer was revealed as yes. Bleckley will be part of the GHSA State Finals October 15 in Macon. It will mark the 27th straight year the Royals made the finals.

The session begins at 3 pm. Bleckley will perform ninth.
