It’s been said many times before, but this was another great season for both middle and high school cross country. The Runnin’ Barons boys team won region and state. It also saw Brody Gibbs finish his middle school career with his third straight individual state title. The girls finished region runner up and state runner up. It was the third straight year both teams finished in the top two at state.

For the Runnin’ Royals, the girls won their 22nd straight region title, the boys their 19th. Both teams won state, the third in a row for the girls. This year marked the first time in school history BCHS had both team and individual state champions (Ella Gibbs, Caleb Darsey.)

An awards ceremony for the middle and high school teams was held Thursday evening in the high school auditorium. Both the middle and high school teams received several items including letter certificates, T-Shirts, and medals. Seniors received their “Runnin’ Royal Alumni” sweatshirts.

Numerous people were recognized. They included: All Region team members for both middle and high school teams. The region champion teams (middle and high school.) All State members for middle and high school teams. The boys middle school state championship team, as well as the high school state championship teams, were recognized. Ella Gibbs was recognized for winning three straight individual state titles.

Specific awards looked like this. Middle School Runners of the Year. Sixth grade: Brinley Davis, Liam Alley. Seventh: Caley Sanders, Ezra Sorensen. Eighth: Avery McWhorter, Elliot Lynch. Overall Runners of the Year: Haley Arnold, Brody Gibbs.

High School awards: Greatest Improvement: Lily Farell, Jack Harrell. Most Improved: Eliza Sorensen, Ethan Murray. “Royal” Award: Reese Bryant, Caleb Leverette. The “5th” award (signifying the fifth runner to finish for a team at a race.) Ava Herrington, Anthony Rutledge.

Ellen Arnold was the lone recipient of the “Super 7” award for having run during her entire middle and high school career. She and Logan Camp picked up the Scholar Athlete awards for having the highest GPA. Arnold was also recognized for finishing in the top four at region all four years of high school.

Several seniors and middle school runners then took time to present Cranford with gifts in appreciation of him and all he does. The evening ended with a very in-depth slide show. Congratulations to all the winners.
