The Bleckley County Board of Education met in called session April 3. According to meeting minutes, applicants for the District 2 vacancy were interviewed and the plan is to fill the position at the regularly scheduled meeting on April 22.
Approved was a resolution for the March 18 ESPLOST Referendum Election Results which authorized the continuation of the current ESPLOST. They also approved the FY26 Athletic Staffing plan. There was lots of news coming from it.
Dylan Cole will be the new BCHS boys head tennis coach, he’d been a longtime assistant under coach Brad Sanders. Ty Cranford is returning to Cochran to become the new BCMS head golf coach and serve as an assistant high school coach.
Another alum returning is Carl Ellis Corley, he’ll be the new head boys track coach at BCHS. Jeremy Mashall, the current BCHS boys track head coach, will move to the same position at BCMS.
Hired last month as a teacher, Chance Pittman will also be coaching as he’ll be the new head softball and baseball coach at BCMS. Softball assistants will be Caroline Chappelear and former Lady Royal softball standout Kaylee Ray Barrs who will serve as a graduate assistant.
In other changes- Jeremy Fish will be joining the Lady Royals softball coaching staff as a community coach. Emily Raley will replace Anna Brown as a competition, football cheer assistant coach for BCHS. Ansley Giddens is returning as head athletic trainer for BCHS.
Matthew Vickery will be the new BCHS boys head soccer coach. Dawson Greer, daughter of Kelli Greer, will be replacing the retiring Vicki Speck as assistant for One Act Play and co-coordinator for literary.
At BCMS, Ray Hardin and Wesley Odom are swapping roles as Odom will be the new athletic director with Hardin being the assistant. Odom will remain girls soccer head coach. Alex Baughman will be the new boys soccer coach, replacing Matthew Gilbert. Suzanne McWhorter will be the game squad cheer coach (football and basketball) replacing Rebekah Bowen.
