Tasha Jones of Bleckley Wrestling was at Monday afternoon’s Cochran Bleckley Rec. Department board meeting. She updated the board on how the inaugural wrestling camp went that was held there last month as well as ask for permission to host another in the fall and to see about starting a wrestling league that would compete against other counties.

Jones said the camp went well. Board members agreed to allow another camp that will potentially be held in September. They said they would look into the concept of having a league.

City council member Carla Coley and city manager Richard Newbern were both at Monday’s meeting. Led by board member Chan Jones, there was an in-depth discussion of finances with both Coley and Newbern.

The biggest concern from board members was knowing how much in SPLOST funds the rec. department would receive so they could plan and budget accordingly. Newbern said the matter would be brought up at the August 7 work session. Someone from the rec. department will be there to represent CBRD.

There was also a recap of the all star seasons in director Allen Yawn’s report. Both 68 and 8u baseball as well as 8u softball finished state runner up. 10u baseball won state and advances to the world series starting August 1 in Lexington, South Carolina.
