Students recognized for test success at BOE meeting.

The Bleckley County Board of Education met in regular session August 19 with all members present. Before acting on the scheduled business of the board, they took time to recognize students who had excelled on the Georgia Milestones and AP Assessments this past spring. All students received certificates and a gift card from Dairy Queen.

BCMS students recognized for perfect scores on their Georgia Milestones exams. \ Kinley Horne - Eighth Grade Math and Algebra I, Jake Floyd – Eighth Grade Math. Levi Arnold - Algebra I. Allie Itson and Blake Allen, Seventh grade math. J.P. Reid, Jace Troup, Blakely Giddens, Elias Howell, Cole Giddens,, Sixth grade math.

The following BCHS students were recognized. Edwynn Wallace for a perfect score on the Biology EOC (End of Course) test. Seth Arnold, Conner Cairney, Zach Gilbert, Kamari McNair, Sheyla Morales Velazquez, Elyce Potts, Jana Tomlin, Scout Totty, and Cadyn Wilson scored a 5 on the AP Pre-Calculus assessment. Tomlin and Totty scored a 5 on the AP Language and Composition Assessment.

Among the consent items was an update to the BCHS student handbook which states any student charged with a felony or placed in a correctional facility (IE: YDC.) could be sent to the Success Academy. The motion passed unanimously. To see the entire section, click the link.

Approved was the Memorandum of Understanding between the board, University of Georgia, and Cooperative Extension that the board would pay $13,485 to be used for salaries of employees at the Extension Office for FY26.

Also approved was the FY26 21st Century CCLC grant for $322,848 and to match with local funds the FY25 Perkins V Allotment of $24,630. The Perkins Allotment provides funding for CTAE programs such as FCCLA. Click the link to view more.
