Barons edge West Laurens to open football season.

BCMS opened the season at West Laurens Wednesday afternoon in what was also Coach Ray Hardin’s first game back as head man for the Barons. Tied 8-8 at halftime, the Raiders scored in the third, but missed the kick. BC retook the lead on a touchdown and successful two-point conversion about halfway through the fourth. WL drove deep into Baron territory but the Bleckley defense held in a 16-14 win. The team plays at J.R. Tripe August 28, kickoff is 5 pm.

Lady Royals have no problems with Southwest.



BCHS took advantage of 13 Southwest walks to pound the Lady Patriots 20-0 Tuesday afternoon. Emmie Williams had a two-run homer in the first inning. Alaysia Coley was 3 for 3 with 3 RBI. Da’Niya Bailey went 2 for 2 with 2 RBI. Kaylee Rae Barrs threw three no-hit innings. BC travels to Washington County August 22. Game time is 5:30 pm.

West Laurens hands Lady Barons first loss of season.

BCMS suffered both their first loss and first region loss of the softball season, falling 9-1 at West Laurens Monday afternoon. Bleckley had just five hits and committed four errors. Augusta Finch was 2 for 3, Ashanti Flagg went 1 for 2. The region series between the teams wraps up August 22 in Cochran at 4:30 pm.
