BCHS One Act wins first region title in seven years. ***Updated October 25***

The last time Bleckley County High School One Act won region was 2014 when they performed “Seussical, Jr.” BC would finish runner up the next six years, five behind Washington County. That changed Saturday when Bleckley won region with their performance of “Freaky Friday.” Amauria Farrow, Callie Paulk and Jewell Allen made All Star Cast. Allie Hattaway was named Best Supporting Actress. Kate Maddox won Best Actress. BCHS also won the award for Best Set and Best Costumes. There will be another community performance of the show, details TBD. State will be November 20 at the Monroe County Fine Arts Complex in Forsyth.

Royals hold off Golden Hawks to win region title.

BCHS got a stop on fourth down with Washington County deep in Royal territory with about 20 seconds left to win 28-23 at the House of Pain Friday night. It clinches a region title, the first since Cochran High School won in 1972, the first in BCHS history. Jahvon Butler ran for 164 yards on 23 carries with three touchdowns. TJ Mays had 54 yards on four carries with one score. Bleckley closes out the regular season October 28 versus Southwest. Senior night recognition at 7 pm, kickoff at 7:30.

Local student makes Middle Georgia State summer semester Dean's List.

Joseph Walker Jump of Cochran made the Middle Georgia State University Dean's list for the 2021 summer semester. According to a university news release, students making the Dean's List had to maintain a minimum 3.8 GPA.

BCHS Beta Club, HOSA students cleanup downtown.

Bleckley County High School Beta Club and HOSA members recently volunteered to cleanup downtown to help prepare for Saturday's CountryFest. The annual event returns after being cancelled last year due to COVID. The DDA will have a table where they'll be selling raffle tickets for various prizes donated by local businesses. There will be arts and crafts, children's activities, entertainment, and food. That evening, a street dance will be held capped off by fireworks. It starts at 10 am.

Jeff Davis got a late touchdown to edge BCMS in the MGMSAA title game 22-18 Thursday evening in Hazlehurst. The Barons finish 7-2.
