Bleckley FFA alum to receive American Degree.

Bleckley FFA alumni Louie Lumley will receive his American Degree at the 94th annual National FFA Convention held October 27-30 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Lumley will be one of 152 members to receive the degree, the highest honor that can be obtained in the National FFA.

City announces information for upcoming election.

The City of Cochran announced elections for mayor and city council District 1- Post 1, District 2- Post 1, and District 3- Post 1, would be held November 2 at the Jaycee Barn. According to a Facebook post, the terms for all four positions will be four years. Qualifying is happening now through August 20 at city hall. Absentee and early voting will be held at city hall October 12-29. The last day to register to vote is October 4 at the county courthouse.

Lady Barons hold off Dodge in season opener.



After consecutive postponements last week, BCMS opened their softball season Monday afternoon at Dodge County. A six-run top of the second gave them a 9-3 lead. Bleckley led 11-4 in the fourth only to see the Lady Warriors draw to within 11-9 after six. But the Lady Barons had a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh to hold on 11-9. Bleckley's next game is Wednesday at J.R. Trippe. Start time is 4 pm.

Weather threat cancels mobile food pantry.

Tomorrow's mobile food pantry has been cancelled due to the threat of inclement weather. A post on the Communities in Schools Facebook page states a new date will be announced when known.

Middle School Sports
Scrimmage provides new Barons head coach a chance to evaluate players.




BCMS football held a scrimmage Saturday evening against Effingham County. Score wasn’t kept, various game situations were worked on. It provided an opportunity for new Barons head coach Randolph “Fort” Halstead and staff to evaluate players before the season begins. BC opens the regular season at home August 26 at 4:30 pm versus J.R. Trippe.
