What's closed July 5?

With July 4 falling on a Sunday, Independence Day will be recognized on July 5. Both city and county government offices will be closed. Banks will be closed. The post office will be closed, no mail delivery. While grocery stores should be open, some restaurants may be closed. Also, the Cochran Bleckley Rec. Department monthly board meeting usually held on the first Monday of the month has been moved to July 12.

A fun final night of VBS.



Vacation Bible School wrapped up at Empire Pentecostal Holiness Church Wednesday night. This week’s theme had been ‘Rocky Railway.” It was a fun time of recounting was learned during the week, pies in the face for offering goals met, as well as songs performed by the children. After concluding, children returned to their parents, and everyone enjoyed a meal and fellowship.

Local woman to serve as county coordinator for U.S. Senate candidate.

Ramona Giles was announced as the county coordinator for Bleckley for U.S. Senate candidate(and current Georgia Agricultural Commissioner) Gary Black. In a release, Giles is listed as being part of the "Team 22" grassroots initiative where many counties have multiple coordinators.

New local based travel soccer team holding Yeti cooler raffle.



Legion FC Cochran is a new travel soccer team made up mostly of local players. The team is part of the Central Georgia Soccer Association. Head coach is Jake Dowdy, father of Lady Royals player Aniston Dowdy. To help cover costs, the team is holding a raffle for a Yeti Tundra Haul Hard Cooler. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased from anyone on the roster. (Note: Lana Brown is Mishayla Brown.)

City to consider amendment to zoning ordinance.

The City of Cochran will consider an amendment to the zoning ordinance which would allow tattoo parlors/body arts studios in the downtown business, neighborhood business, and community business districts.
