New foundation seeking to be a light for change.




A candlelight “Vigil of Remembrance” was held to honor those affected by gun violence Saturday night at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. It was sponsored by the Dre Day Foundation, a newly-formed group who’s stated mission is to “provide a cultivating support system for teens and young adults as an alternative to gun violence.” The foundation was created by family and friends of former Bleckley student Deandre Pitts who was shot to death in February. There was special music, several speakers including a call to action by Mt. Zion Pastor Alton Walker. House of Grace Church will hold a "Community Night of Worship" tomorrow at 7 pm. The service will feature worship leaders from area churches along with the House of Grace worship team.

Busy final night of VBS at local church.




Thursday was the final night of Vacation Bible School at Bethany Baptist Church. As it had been all week, it was a busy night. Children practiced in the sanctuary for the parents night performance that would take place. There were classes still happening, and some volunteers got an early start on cleanup. This week’s theme was “Destination Dig.”
