Basketball courts at Willie Basby park reopening.

The City of Cochran announced today via Facebook the reopening of the basketball courts located at Willie Basby Park, 142 Thompson Street. Courts will be open starting today from 10 am to 8 pm. Those using the courts assume all risks for exposure to COVID-19, masks and social distancing encouraged. Limit of 10 people on each court at one time. Rules include: no fighting, no disorderly conduct, no hanging on rims, no fighting, no weapons, no alcohol, drugs, or tobacco, no glass allowed, no vehicles or motorcycles, no skateboards, bicycles, roller skates, etc. and no fires on the courts, open or closed.

GDOT suspending construction related lane closures for Memorial Day weekend.

Memorial Day weekend is considered one of the busiest travel times in the state. Because of that, the Georgia Department of Transportation will suspend construction related lane closures on interstates and major state routes from noon on May 28 through June 1 at 5 am. A release reminds motorists that crews could still be working nearby.

How advertisers help the site survive.

While I'm of course frustrated at the delay in the farm sale, a shout out and thank you to the site's advertisers. Had an unexpected expense today, $149 to repair the upstairs air conditioning unit. Thanks to the support of my advertisers, I was able to pay the bill and not be completely financially devastated. So thank you to the businesses and churches that support Bleckley Progress.
