The groundbreaking.
L-R: Commissioner Mike Davis, Melissa Barker, Mi Waters, Randy Thompson, Candace Summerall, Mike Sanford, Lynne Raley, Mayor Billy Yeomans.

It’d been the topic of discussion at city council meetings and on social media for years. Some thought it would never happen. But Monday afternoon, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the new Cochran Community Park. It will be built on land donated by Earl Arnold and located on Ash Street.. The ceremony was attended by several community leaders including Mayor Billy Yeomans, County Commissioner Mike Davis, and members of city council. In his remarks, Yeomans took the time to thank all those involved in making the park possible including Arnold and those who’d have a hand in building the park including Paulk Landscaping.. He recognized former council members Keith Anderson and Andrew Lemon who were both praised for being key in helping the project move forward. Former Bleckley Elementary teacher Kim Fernandez was also recognized as her third grade class wrote letters to council eight years ago asking for a city park. The hope is to have those former students at the park’s opening.
