Success Academy graduation held.



(Photos contributed.) Bleckley County Success Academy held graduation ceremonies Thursday night in the high school auditorium. 18 students walked across the stage to get their diplomas. Three scholarships were presented. Taylor Mashburn received the DGR’s Clubhouse Scholarship. Andrew Rozier received the Mathis Funeral Home Scholarship. Tatiyana Pratt was the recipient of the Danny and Ellen Mathis Scholarship. Congrdauations to the BCSA Class of 2025.

What's closed for Memorial Day?

Memorial Day is Monday, May 26, a federal holiday. All federal, state, and local government (IE: Cochran City Hall, Bleckley County Courthouse) will be closed. Trash pickup will be delayed by one day. All banks will be closed and there will be no mail delivery. While chain businesses such as Walmart and Dollar General will be open regular hours, some may be closed or have different hours due to the holiday.

Georgia DOT suspending interstate lane closures for Memorial Day weekend.

Because of the increase in traffic over the Memorial Day weekend, the Georgia Department of Transportation announced they would be suspending interstate lane closures from May 23 at noon through May 27 at 5 am. A release posted on the GDOT website states the closures are designed to ”ease travel, reduce delays and increase safety.” Motorists are advised to reduce speeds when traveling through work zones and to move over one lane when possible as lane closures could be reinstated management or emergencies on the interstate. Crews could also still be working near interstates.
