Curtain closes on good middle school band seasons.

The curtain closed on the 2024-25 BCMS band season Thursday night as the sixth grade band and seventh and eighth grade band had their spring concert in the gym. Both bands performed some familiar tunes among their selections including the sixth grade band doing a mixup of “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions” and the seventh and eighth grade band performed the theme from Mission Impossible.
Two awards were handed out during the sixth grade concert. Sixth grade Most Improved: Jaiden Baker. Sixth grade Most Outstanding Musician, Maci Mitchell. Pictured are seventh and eighth grade award recipients.
Awards were also handed out during the seventh and eighth grade band performance. Students who received “Excellent” or “Superior” ratings at the Solo and Ensemble Festival in Bonnaire were recognized. Those who received “Excellent”- Ezra Sorensen, Ethan Teague, Georgia Pittman, Alexandra Stokes, Ava Cackett , Kira Jackson. Certificates for receiving a “Superior” rating went to Aubree Freeman, Olivia Owens, and Haylee Gillis. Freeman also received The Director’s Award which recognizes outstanding musicianship and dedication to the band.

Comeback falls short as baseball season ends.

BCHS found themselves down 7-0 after three innings in Thursday afternoon’s game three matchup at Pepperell. The Royals tried to rally but lost 9-7. 14 runners were left on base. Braegan Cravey homered and was 3 for 4 with 5 RBI. Clayton Beck was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. Walker Boatright and Gavin Cole each went 2 for 4. Bleckley finishes the season 25-11.

Weather threat postpones Second Saturday event.

The threat of inclement weather May 10 has caused the Cochran Bleckley Chamber of Commerce to postpone the scheduled Second Saturday Music and Food Trucks scheduled for this Saturday. Details on the next event are TBD though the chamber announced via Facebook the Plum Tucker'ed Band has been rescheduled for August 9.

Local OFTC Radiology Students participate in pinning ceremony.

(Photo courtesy news release.) Zach Floyd and Mallory Sears of Cochran were among 12 radiology students to receive their pins during a ceremony held May 6 on the Dublin campus. The pinning ceremony marks the end of the students' two-year journey toward becoming registered radiologic technologists. Thanks to completion of the program, students are eligible to sit for national exams to become registered professionals in their field. Floyd and Sears are pictured with classmates.

Royals split playoff games at Pepperell.

BCHS traveled north Wednesday evening for a quarterfinal matchup at Pepperell. The Royals won game one 6-2 Braegan Cravey was 3 for 3 with a double and also gave up two runs and six hits over seven innings pitched. Clayton Beck was 2 for 4 with 4 RBI. Brody Fleming went 2 for 4. The Royals had just four hits in game two in losing 8-1. Cole was 2 for 3 with a double. Walker Boatright went 1 for 2 with a double. Game three is tomorrow in Lindale at 5 pm.
