Dual Enrolled BCHS student participates in healthcare team building activity at OFTC.

(Photo courtesy news release.) Karmen Shields is a Bleckley County High School student dual enrolled at Oconee Fall Line Technical College. In the Introduction to Health Care class, Shields participated in a teamwork challenge with classmates. The activity was designed to emphasize collaboration in a healthcare setting. Students were divided into teams and tasked with building the tallest free-standing structure using only 15 strands of spaghetti, six large marshmallows, four pieces of medical tape, and two rubber bands. The catch? None of the materials could be broken, and teams had to strategize how to use (or not use) the items to achieve the best result. Shields is pictured with classmates from West Laurens High School.

Good Barons baseball season celebrated.

There were 12 eighth graders on this year's team.
BCMS had an 18-win season and a second straight region runner up finish. The season was celebrated Tuesday night in the middle school lunchroom.

On to the Elite Eight for BCHS Tennis. ***Updated***



(Photos contributed.) Both the BCHS boys and girls tennis teams punched their tickets to the GHSA quarterfinals as both defeated Bacon County 3-0 in Cochran Tuesday afternoon. Bleckley will host Jeff Davis for a semifinal berth, the boys play tomorrow at 4 pm, the girls play May 5 at 4 pm.

Pilot Club of Cochran awards scholarships to BCHS students.

(Photo courtesy Facebook.) Pilot International Club of Cochran recently awarded five $500 scholarships to Bleckley County High School Seniors. Funds for the scholarships were raised from the club’s yearly Light-a-Light Christmas tree fundraiser. Pictured are, standing L-R: Scholarship Co-Chair Dianne Giddens, Nate Knox, Reese Bryant, Scholarship Co-Chair Dr. Julia Lucas. Seated L-R: Drew Floyd, Abigail Rangle, Brady Brannon, Kaylee Rae Barrs. Knox will also receive the Georgia District Lynda Goodwin Volunteer Scholarship at the Pilot Club District Convention in May that will be held at Stone Mountain.

Cochran Firefighters lend their services to another fire department.

Cochran Firefighters Issac Fernandez and Thomas Scroggs recently spent several hours working for the City of Augusta Fire Department. The two provided manpower and responded to calls so other firefighters could attend a firefighter’s funeral.
