BCHS Honors, AP Classes, thank community for support of bake sale.

(Photos contributed.) The Bleckley County High School AP and Honors, Science, Economics, and Math classes held their annual pre-Thanksgiving bake sale Tuesday morning in the First Baptist Church parking lot. Proceeds will go toward an education trip to Universal Studios in Orlando this January. A thank you to everyone who came out in support of them despite the less than favorable weather.

What's closed for Thanksgiving?

The Bleckley County Courthouse will close tomorrow at noon and be closed November 28 and 29 in observance of Thanksgiving. Cochran City Hall will close tomorrow at 11 am and be closed oThursday and Friday in observance of Thanksgiving. All government offices will be closed November 28. Some banks may also be closed November 29, as well as some local businesses. The only store in Cochran that will operate with regular hours on Thanksgiving is Dollar General.

Former Lady Royals softball player Faith Harris will be joining the Middle Georgia State Knights softball coaching staff as an assistant. After playing at BCHS, Harris played college softball at Albany State University. She also helped found the Georgia Sluggers travel softball team and is a coach.

Georgia DOT to suspend construction-related lane closures for Thanksgiving holiday.

To improve traffic flow during the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, the Georgia DOT announced plans to suspend lane closures on interstates, major state routes, and roads near popular shopping areas from 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27, through 10 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1. A release states the suspension of construction-related lane closures aims to reduce congestion and create a smoother travel experience for everyone and that similar restrictions would take place during the Christmas and New Year�s. holidays. Drivers are reminder construction crews may still be active near highways, and some long-term lane closures could remain in place for safety reasons. Also, or incident-related lane closures may still occur at any time, as needed.
