It was break from region play as BCHS hosted Veterans Tuesday night. Both teams sought to break three-game losing streaks. A big fourth quarter helped the girls while the boys couldn’t hold a fourth quarter lead.

Down three after one quarter, the Lady Royals rallied in the second to lead 31-27 at halftime. It was a five-point game going to the fourth when Aliyah Whitehead scored 11 of her team-high 19 points. BC led by as many as 16 en route to winning 57-46. Jahnaria Brown added 18 points.

The lead changed numerous times in the first half between the Warhawks and Royals. Shontavian Manuel scored Bleckley’s final four points of the second, giving them a 26-23 halftime lead. Torenio Davis scored 13 in the third and Jalon Jenkins had a buzzer beater as BC led by eight going to the fourth.

Veterans though would re-take the lead on an 11-2 run. Tied at 50 in the final minute, Nykeem Farrow’s driving layup put the Royals up two with 37 seconds left. Veterans though got a three-point shot with 12 seconds remaining. A last-second three was short as BCHS lost their fourth in a row, 53-52.

Davis had 19 points. RJ Barnes did not play and was not dressed out. Bleckley hosts Dublin Friday. Varsity games start at 6 pm. Participants in this year’s Future Royals Cheer Camp will perform.
